  23. .TH CURLOPT_READDATA 3 "August 11, 2018" "libcurl 7.61.1" "curl_easy_setopt options"
  24. .SH NAME
  25. CURLOPT_READDATA \- custom pointer passed to the read callback
  26. .SH SYNOPSIS
  27. #include <curl/curl.h>
  28. CURLcode curl_easy_setopt(CURL *handle, CURLOPT_READDATA, void *pointer);
  29. .SH DESCRIPTION
  30. Data \fIpointer\fP to pass to the file read function. If you use the
  31. \fICURLOPT_READFUNCTION(3)\fP option, this is the pointer you'll get as
  32. input in the 4th argument to the callback.
  33. If you don't specify a read callback but instead rely on the default internal
  34. read function, this data must be a valid readable FILE * (cast to 'void *').
  35. If you're using libcurl as a win32 DLL, you \fBMUST\fP use a
  36. \fICURLOPT_READFUNCTION(3)\fP if you set this option or you will experience
  37. crashes.
  38. .SH DEFAULT
  39. By default, this is a FILE * to stdin.
  40. .SH PROTOCOLS
  41. This is used for all protocols when sending data.
  42. .SH EXAMPLE
  43. .nf
  44. CURL *curl = curl_easy_init();
  45. struct MyData this;
  46. if(curl) {
  47. curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_URL, "http://example.com");
  48. /* pass pointer that gets passed in to the
  49. CURLOPT_READFUNCTION callback */
  50. curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_READDATA, &this);
  51. curl_easy_perform(curl);
  52. }
  53. .fi
  54. .SH AVAILABILITY
  55. This option was once known by the older name CURLOPT_INFILE, the name
  56. \fICURLOPT_READDATA(3)\fP was introduced in 7.9.7.
  57. .SH RETURN VALUE
  58. This will return CURLE_OK.
