  2. Roadmap for PDO
  3. Core, version 1.1:
  4. ==================
  5. - Add PDO::queryParams(), similar to PDO::query(), but accepts
  6. an array of parameters as the second argument, pushing the remaining
  7. args (which are args to setFetchMode()) up by one.
  8. - Separate the handle factory call into two phases:
  9. - handle creation
  10. - connecting
  11. This would then allow PDO to call setAttribute()
  12. for each driver option specified in the constructor.
  13. Right now, the handling of driver attributes is a bit sloppy.
  14. - Add:
  15. pdo.max_persistent
  16. pdo.persistent_timeout
  17. pdo.ping_interval
  18. with the same meanings as those options from oci8.
  19. - BLOB/CLOB.
  20. Investigate the various APIs to determine if we can
  21. transparently map BLOBs and CLOBs as PDO_PARAM_LOB.
  22. If the API needs hints from the client side, we need
  23. to introduce a PDO_PARAM_CLOB to differentiate between
  24. binary and character data.
  25. - Character set selection.
  26. Generalize/standardize this.
  27. - meta data.
  28. Formalize getColumnMeta().
  29. Look at retrieving lists of tables and other objects in the db.
  30. - tracing/logging/debugging
  31. Add ini options:
  32. pdo.trace_file
  33. pdo.enable_tracing
  34. And corresponding attributes, ATTR_TRACE_FILE, ATTR_TRACING_ENABLE,
  35. settable at dbh and stmt levels independently. If set at the dbh level,
  36. the stmt will inherit its value. If not set explicitly in code, the
  37. defaults for the dbh will come from the INI settings.
  38. ATTR_TRACE_FILE will accept a string or a stream.
  39. The INI options are useful for administrative tracing/debugging.
  40. Trace mode will output very verbose info.
  41. General DB API Roundup:
  42. =========
  43. Consider how the following can be implemented in PDO:
  44. mysqli_change_user(); alters auth credentials on a live connection
  45. mysqli_info(); info about rows affected by last query
  46. mysqli_master_query(); force query to run on master
  47. mysqli_ping(); ping / reconnect
  48. mysqli_stat(); one line summary of server status
  49. oci_password_change()
  50. Also consider master/slave and/or failover server configuration.
  51. Postgres:
  52. =========
  53. - Real large object support.
  54. - Someone with more pgsql experience can suggest more features
  55. Oracle:
  56. =======
  57. - Support for array types and collections.
  58. PDO Session module:
  59. ===================
  60. - Is it worth writing in C?
  61. Probably not.
